M.Video-Eldorado customers donated 50 cargo railcars worth of old equipment for recycling

Since the launch of its own recycling program in 2019, M.Video-Eldorado Group has sent over 4600 tons of electronic waste to licensed recycling facilities.

The Group's efforts have reduced the carbon footprint of Russian residents by 9,000 tons of CO2 equivalent and stopped over 100,000 pieces of appliances from being buried in a landfill, comparable to a 50-car freight train* by mass.

In collaboration with SKO Electronics-Recycling, an association of manufacturers, importers, and recyclers of appliances and electronics, the Group has been running a federal program to establish Russia's largest infrastructure for the collection and recycling of electronics waste starting in 2019.

In the first 7 months of 2022, customers of M. Video and Eldorado chains donated over 800 tons of unwanted devices – including 33 tons of used batteries – to be sent to licensed recycling facilities. This figure is 10 times higher than that of 2019. M.Video-Eldorado also recycled about 1 ton of items from its own stores and offices, as well as about 1200 tons of packaging. The retailer plans to recycle 85% of its own waste in line with its sustainability strategy.

In the first half of 2022, the recycling program was made available in almost 70% of M.Video and Eldorado stores, with the total number of collection points growing by an additional 86 to reach 836 stores.

People from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yaroslavl, and Samara donated the most equipment. Used batteries are most often handed over for recycling in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Chelyabinsk, and Kazan. Cell phones, kettles, washing machines, and refrigerators, as well as accessories such as headphones and cables, are the items most frequently donated by the public.
